Heroes Tour by Doug Meyer at NIBA Home

Building Doug Meyer’s DIFFA Heroes Portrait Gallery created in 2015, the artist has created the Heroes Tour 2016 – an homage to creative icons who were the first victims of AIDS.

The list of heroes includes 50 icons from the worlds of art, design, film and design –names including Freddie Mercury, Michael Taylor, Tina Chow, Robert Mapplethrope, and Jay Spectre.

Using history and achievements for context, Meyer created unique pieces that draw on stylized forms of medallions, cameos, intaglios, and sculpted busts, embellishing each with drawing, painting, collage and sculptural elements.

In addition to the portraits, Meyer worked together with Wayne Consiglio to create a soundtrack for the piece, which includes 40 tracks curated from a range of artists. Notable songs are by Madonna, Loose Joints, and Maria Callas.

The exhibition will travel to Chicago after wrapping up in Miami in a few weeks. For more information on the tour, click here. NIBA Home is a design store in the Miami Design District that curates art, design objects and home furnishings.
